Description
Set aside every joke you have heard about Oracle for ninety seconds, because the numbers are genuinely awkward for the competition. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure has the most generous always-free tier in the industry, and its ARM Ampere instances are among the best value per core available anywhere. Those two facts are true regardless of how you feel about the company attached to them.
OCI is the most underrated platform we sell, and the one customers are most surprised by.
What makes OCI worth a serious look
The free tier is not a trick
Most “free tiers” are a trial dressed up. Oracle’s always-free allocation includes ARM compute in quantities that will genuinely run a small production workload indefinitely. For prototyping, side projects, or standing up a service that must not cost anything, it is unmatched — and it is not close.
ARM Ampere is exceptional value
If your workload compiles for ARM — and in 2026 most things do — the price-per-core on Ampere instances is materially better than the equivalent on any hyperscaler. For CPU-bound work, that difference is not a rounding error. It is the whole budget.
It is a real cloud
Networking, block storage, managed databases, Kubernetes — the fundamentals are all present and they work. What you sacrifice is ecosystem breadth and community depth. If you need an obscure managed service or a Stack Overflow answer at 2am, AWS remains the safer bet, and we will say so.

Why buy rather than sign up?
Because OCI’s signup has a reputation, and it is deserved. Card verification fails frequently and opaquely. Accounts are placed under review for reasons never communicated. Some regions refuse new signups entirely. And a proportion of people who make it through find their account restricted in ways that make the free tier unreachable — which is a peculiar kind of insult.
A cleared account removes that lottery. Verification is done, the account is in good standing, and the capacity you came for is actually available.
What is included
- Login credentials — a dedicated email and strong password for your Oracle Cloud account.
- Full console and billing access, spend visible from the first hour.
- ARM Ampere capacity available — the reason most people are here, ready to launch.
- Verification cleared before listing, so the account is not sitting under review.
- The OCI region of your choice, set before delivery.
- Free lifetime replacement, written into the order.
Tiers and pricing

Free Tier — $25
A verified account with the always-free ARM allocation intact and usable. For a lot of buyers this is the entire product — a permanently free, genuinely capable server, for the price of a takeaway.
Pay-As-You-Go — $69
Active billing for workloads that exceed the free allocation. The right tier once you are running something real.
ARM Ampere (4 OCPU) — $99
Configured specifically for cost-efficient ARM compute. If price-per-core is what brought you to OCI, this is the tier that delivers on it.
$5,000 Credit — $499
Sustained production use, with a preloaded balance so the bill is handled before you start.
Honest limitations
We would rather tell you now than have you find out later.
- ARM capacity is not always instantly available in every region. It is worth confirming your region with us before ordering rather than assuming.
- The ecosystem is thinner. Fewer tutorials, fewer third-party integrations, fewer people who have already hit your exact problem.
- Your software must run on ARM to capture the value. Most modern stacks do. Some legacy ones very much do not.
- The console is idiosyncratic. It is fine. It is not delightful.
If any of those are dealbreakers, Hetzner offers comparable value on x86 with a far simpler mental model, and DigitalOcean offers a nicer experience at a slightly higher price. Our full comparison is here.
Delivery and guarantees
Automated fulfilment: median around nine minutes from cleared payment to a working console, any hour. If the account fails, message support and we replace it free — a written term of every order.
Frequently asked questions
Is the always-free tier really free forever?
Oracle’s always-free allocation is exactly that, subject to their terms and to the resources remaining in use. It is not a 12-month trial. Confirm the specifics with us for your region before ordering.
Will ARM instances be available in my region?
Ampere capacity varies by region and can be constrained. Tell us where you need to deploy and we will confirm before you pay rather than after.
Is OCI good enough for production?
For a great many workloads, yes — and the cost saving is real. For workloads that depend on a deep managed-service catalogue, no. Be honest about which you are.
How does this compare to AWS?
Cheaper for raw compute, thinner everywhere else. That is the whole trade, and we set it out plainly rather than pretending there is a universal winner.
What people actually build on OCI
The pattern we see most often is not an enterprise migration. It is a developer who wanted a permanently free, genuinely useful server and discovered that Oracle is the only provider offering one that is not a toy.
On the always-free ARM allocation, customers routinely run a personal VPN, a small production API with a database behind it, a self-hosted analytics stack, a CI runner, a game server, or a home-lab bastion — indefinitely, for nothing. That is a remarkable proposition and it is under-discussed largely because people cannot get past the signup to try it.
The second pattern is cost-driven and unsentimental: a team with a CPU-bound workload runs the numbers on Ampere, finds the price-per-core is materially better than anything a hyperscaler will quote, and moves the compute-heavy portion of their stack across while leaving the rest where it is. That hybrid approach is often the smartest version of this decision — you are not betting the company on OCI, you are just declining to overpay for cores.
Account hygiene on day one
- Change the password immediately and store it in a password manager.
- Enable multi-factor authentication before you deploy anything.
- Create a working user rather than operating as the tenancy administrator day to day.
- Set a budget alert, even on the free tier — the moment you exceed the free allocation, billing begins quietly.
